MINUTES OF THE WIMB MEETING

NOVEMBER 2009 

Eva Nascimento called meeting to order on November 12th at 7:05pm. She began by addressing the cancellation of the Regional Competition.  Anyone that would like a refund for tickets should see Marie Massaro. Then, Eva reported that Nancy Andrews and several students, including Drum Majors, attended the last BOE meeting to share the marching band’s success this season, as well as to inform Board members that we are considering summer uniforms which consist of monogrammed navy-blue polo-shirts with khaki slacks and black shoes. Boosters will purchase polos for all orchestra and band students once we finalize details. 

October Minutes

Yolanda Preysner motioned to accept the October minutes. Charlie Epp seconded. October minutes were accepted. 

Treasurer’s Report

Mario Ciampi gave the treasurer’s report for the month of October.  

 Publicity

Yolanda Preysner stated that the fruit sale and Christmas tree pick up is currently being advertised. For December/January she will publicize results of the Northern Regional Finals on November 14th. 

Uniforms

After Thanksgiving Day uniforms will be collected on December 2nd and 3rd from 5-7 pm in Band Room. 

Fundraising

Ø  Bottle Drive – John MacFarlane stated all went smoothly.  $1,154.00 in bottles was collected.  Thanks to everyone that participated, especially Scott Kemp, and Kirsten and Mark Kelly. 

Ø  Magnet Sale- Stacey Veley reported $120 in sales.  She will look for additional venues to sell, such as the Eagles Nest School Store.

Ø  Fruit Sale – Eva reported sales of $40,200. So far, $21,000 has been collected. Tuesday @ 7:00 is the “cutting” party at Eva’s.  Students will get their final customer lists on Monday so that they can remind customers this weekend is pick up. Jane McFarlane has purchased supplies for baskets, and is still looking for volunteers for Friday and Sunday, especially for truck duty.

Ø  Orchestra Bottle Drive @Cove Carnival- Judy Niedzieldki reported $45.80 in receipts for cans; about 10 students worked the fair which was rained out on Sunday. All orchestra parents got the information about fruit sale and bottle drive.

Ø  Grants and United Way Campaign – Eva sent a reminder e-mail re: United Way donations and the identification number for WHS Band donations.

Ø  Christmas Tree pickup –Jerome Sauer out.  Flyers to be passed out at fruit sale pick up.  Also, flyers will be passed out to area nurseries.  Yolanda Preysner will phone calls coordinating pickups. 

Dave Dion’s Update

Ø  Competitions were wet and cold this season.  Kids really enjoyed the show and were in great form musically and visually.

Ø  Columbus Day parade on Franklin Ave on October 11th went well.  Several parents brought up doing the Veteran’s Day Parade instead.  Dave suggested there be a sub-committee to help decide.

Ø  November 14th Football Game was originally away, but has been rescheduled for home.  Most students will be at the Northern Regionals.

Ø  Thanksgiving Day Game- Senior students will be recognized.

Ø  Trip –So far 101 students going and plenty of chaperones have signed up. Student and chaperone deposits will be due the first week in December. Goal is to have forms with student account balances that include fruit sale earnings sent home prior.

Ø  Other- Band students will be performing In the Heights for Highcrest, Emerson, and Hanmer School students on Tues., November 22nd. 

In closing, Eva reminded everyone that the next meeting on December 10th will be a meeting and holiday gathering at Eva’s.  Everyone is welcome just sign up to bring a dessert or appetizer.  Please RSVP 860-563-0135.
