MINUTES OF THE WIMB MEETING Eva Nascimento called meeting to order on February 10th at 7:05 p.m. PRESIDENT’S COMMENTS Eva passed out copies of the letter to Kohlhagen citing student safety and requesting district pay for rental of moving truck to carry large instruments and equipment that have traditionally been stored in aisles of school bus when we travel to competitions. She also circulated the Band Booster Ad for the Musical’s Program. January Minutes Filomena Marinelli motioned to accept the January minutes. Jerome Sauer seconded. January minutes were accepted. Publicity Yolanda Preysner was not present. Eva reported Yolanda is planning on a spring newsletter. Uniforms Donna Pallone reported Battiston’s will clean uniforms for $4.00 per uniform ($2.00 per piece). This includes pickup and delivery. This is a considerable saving over Premier’s prices. Donna Pallone motioned to change dry cleaner’s to Battiston’s. Charlie Epp seconded. Motion passed. Spring Uniforms- Filomena reported she is ready to order the Devon Jones Pima cotton polo. Pam Salvatore offered to look into cost from the Tees and More. As voted on at the previous meeting, Booster Board will make final decision. Fundraising Ø Christmas Tree pickup – Jerome Sauer reported receipts of approximately $2,600. He also made suggestions for next year: more student involvement for distributing flyers in neighborhoods and having a crew of 2 students per truck plus driver for scheduled pickups. Eva asked Jerome to prepare a report to leave for next chairperson. Ø Spring Bottle Drive- John McFarlane not present. Jerome Sauer reported date will be Saturday, May 1st. We may need extra canopies in case of inclement weather. Ø Rockcats- Eva began by pointing out the difficulties of running this fundraiser. Management constantly changes rules. Most recently, they have decreased percentage of profit, while requiring us to provide our own stand manager. In addition, it is very difficult to adequately staff most of our dates as they occur during the summer. She, then, opened it up for discussion. Gail Griffin motioned for Band Boosters to no longer participate in this fundraiser. Motion was seconded by Pam Salvatore. Motion passed. Ø Ad book- Filomena reported that parent letters and business letters have gone out. They are also up on website for individuals and businesses to download. Responses are trickling in. Dave Dion’s Update Ø 6 students made it to All States. Ø DC Trip –Doug Bennett available to meet with chaperones on Monday, March 15th or Tuesday, March 16th @ 6:30. Eva or Dave to have Nancy check with chaperones for best date. Ø Musical- Curtain March 5, 6, 7, 12, & 13- pit rehearsals going well. Pit and singers will be rehearsing together during February vacation…Rehearsals will be Wed-Fri from 9-4. Ø Spring Concert –March 22nd @7:30. (Snow date 3/24)Ø Band Camp Dates- coming soon. OTHER BUSINESS Ø Safe Grad- Donation Letter Received; Dave to get final count of all seniors including orchestra, color guard and marching band to Mario so he can send out donation of $10 per senior. Ø Drama Program Raffle Tickets to Boston Ø Pam Salvatore asked whether Color Guard may run bake sale at the spring concert to earn money to purchase warm-ups for color guard members. Permission was granted for bake sale although it was discussed and decided that all Musical Booster fundraising money must go into the general fund. Then the needs of all members may be discussed and addressed. Color guards’ request for warm-ups seemed reasonable to all present, so Pam Salvatore will solicit blind bids to be sent to Eva’s attention. Ø Dave also presented a situation in which a band student wants to use his student funds to pay for Drama Club fee. Some discussion was had as to the appropriateness of using students’ Band Booster Fundraising money on non-band events, and it was finally decided students’ money may be used for students to participate in programs that support students’ musical enrichment that are school based. Meeting adjourned at 8:45 pm. Next Meeting is March 11, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the WHS Chorus Room.
