MINUTES OF THE WIMB MEETING SEPTEMBER 2010 Eva Nascimento called meeting to order on September 9th at 7:05pm. President’s Comments Eva began by welcoming freshman parents and introducing the booster board. After introductions, she announced Mr. Dion’s winning of WHS Teacher of the Year. The band has moved up to a Class 5 with 21 color guard members. On the last day of band camp it was necessary to call a special meeting to discuss color guard and pit uniforms. The board voted to purchase new red tunics to go with black dance pants for color guard and black mock long sleeve tees for pit. The money set aside at the end of last year for color guard warm-ups will go toward purchase of their uniforms. This amount will be supplemented up to $2,500. Eva also discussed that they had purchased the black mock tees for the pit members and had priced out the black slacks at Wal-Mart for around $15.00. Additional expenses for this year may be truck rentals for competitions. Also, she reviewed Mr. Dion’s final purchases for last year’s wish list: 4 Marching Tubas, 1 Concert Tuba, 4 Marching Baritones, 2 Mellophones, 1 Field Frame for the Marimba, 4 Cymbal Stands, 1 Six Foot Drum Major Podium, 8 Colorguard Rifles, 21 Colorguard Uniforms, and 1 Set of New Flags. Volunteers for uniform distribution please be there for 5:30. June Minutes Stacey Veley motioned to accept the June minutes. Donna Rizzio seconded. June minutes were accepted. Treasurer’s Report Mario Ciampi gave the treasurer’s report for June through August. Publicity Yolanda reported that she advertised the Bottle drive and the Music & Arts. She will put a thank you in the Wethersfield Post. Also, the Wethersfield Post covered band camp. She also requested the Post and Life cover Mr. Dion’s winning of teacher of the year and has arranged for competition coverage. Website Update Nella reported that the website is coming along…somewhat slowly, as this is the first time she’s working on all the updates on her own. She still needs to add photos of drum majors and new color guard and update Important Dates tab. Suggestion was made to include more information about the orchestra. Anyone that would like to help may contact Nella. Uniforms Donna Pallone reported that three more students have been added to Marching Band just this week. All the uniforms are fitted. Some still to be sewn. Shoes are ordered. Everything will be ready for Saturday. Gloves will be given out on Cornfest morning. We will need four tables for distribution day. Also, Donna was not happy with Battiston’s dry cleaning or handling of uniforms. She will check with Premier to see what they can do for us. Fundraising Ø Bottle Drive – John MacFarlane reported the bottle drive was a great success netting the boosters $1301.00. Overall, the bottle drive ran smoothly. There were plenty of volunteers and the processes were much more efficient. Several area businesses donated supplies, such as latex gloves, packing boxes, and tape. Ø Music & Arts- Filomena and Judy reported they did not have the exact figure yet. There were plenty of student and parent volunteers. The traffic flow was not sufficient for the food and drink sale to be successful. They have several ideas for improving this fundraiser for next year: combining Wethersfield’s day with Glastonbury; assuring consistent communication from all the elementary schools; creating a Wethersfield Music Program t-shirt to sell to students and their families; run a t-shirt design contest…Anyone wanting to help with the t-shirt sale coordination contact Filomena or Judy. Details to be gathered and presented at October meeting for vote. Ø Fruit Sale – Eva and Joe reported the fruit sale kick off will run September 28th – October 25th. The pick-up weekend is November 19th – 21st. Students can earn 70%-80% of profits from their sales for their accounts. T-shirt Orders Nancy Andrews reported will be here for Saturday’s distribution. Sweatshirt Orders Kirsten Kelly reported that all orders are due by Saturday. She will then be ready to send out for embroidering Tuesday. Band Camp Recap Sue Wizniak reported all went well with snacks and drinks. Dave Dion’s Update Ø Band Camp- went well, especially since the expected rain held off and they were able to use the field at the high school for some of their practice. Ø Competitions – will begin 2 weeks from Saturday. Ø Color guard– is up to 21 members. We’ve purchased new uniforms, 8 rifles, and practice flags. The girls are getting along well with the new instructor, Robert Reeder. Ø Cornfest- schedule to be announced. Ø Show is currently 2/3 ready, but will be finished by the first football game. Meeting adjourned at 8:40 pm. Next Meeting is October 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the Chorus Room.
