MINUTES OF THE WIMB MEETING February 2011 Eva Nascimento called meeting to order on February 10th at 7:08 pm. January MinutesDiane Dow motioned to accept the January minutes with change to number of t-shirts sold from 140 to 80. Joe Nascimento seconded. January minutes were accepted with changes. Treasurer’s Report Mario Ciampi gave the treasurer’s report for January. UniformsDonna Pallone and Cindy Tremblay were not present. Eva reported that all but, 2 color guard, 1 band uniform and 4 pit shirts were returned. Fundraising Ø Bottle Drive-John MacFarlane reported that SDMS bus drop-off is already booked by another organization for May 21st. He will check to see if April 30th or May 7th is available. Ø Christmas Tree Pick-ups-Rich Giolito was not present. Eva reported that 250 trees were collected for a total of $2,500. Ø Ad Book-Filomena Marinelli said letters to businesses and families will be mailed out the first week of March. She is also following up with Capital Archives to see if they will print the ad book for us again. Anyone interested in helping with calls and soliciting, contact Filomena. Social Events Ø Band Banquet- Paula Houlihan was not present. Lisa Stefano reported that all is going well for the annual potluck celebration on Friday, May 20th at 6:00 p.m. at the community center. The cost is $5.00 per person including students. Lisa Ambrogio will be buying gifts for seniors. She is looking for parents of seniors to send her individual pictures of their child. Rodrigo and Giancarlo are putting together the banquet slide show. Pictures for the slide show should be sent to Paula. Since our graduating class is so large (34 students), the length of "roastings" will be limited to a minute per student. Volunteers are still needed for set up and clean up. Volunteer sheet was circulated. Anyone else interested in helping out may contact Lisa or Paula. Ø WHS Safe Grad- Mario Ciampi reported we received thank you note from Safe Grad Committee. Lisa Stefano shared that parents may send pictures to be included in the Safe Grad slide show to Rita Giel. New/Old Business Ø Nancy Andrews still has extra t-shirts for In the Heights and Awakenings. Ø Eva reported that she will have the list of open committee positions for 2011-2012 at the next meeting. Ø Also, it was pointed out that the March Meeting falls on the Seniors Dinner and Show night. March meeting changed to Wednesday, March 9th. Ø Meeting Agenda ended at 7:25. While we waited for Mr. Dion, we had some open discussion on how to get more freshmen parents involved in events and committees. Some ideas were: provide flyers at June Concerts at WHS and SDMS; put a flyer in the June Deane Scene; provide a parent orientation of the 1st day of Band Camp. The two freshmen parents present shared that the Section Leaders calls to freshmen students prior to band camp was very helpful. Dave Dion’s Update Ø Trip- Dave reported the trip to West Side Story at the Bushnell is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24th. Final approval from Mr. Moore should not be any problem. Ø Musical- Little Women will run the weekends of March 11th and 18th. The Senior Dinner and Show event will be on Thursday, March 10th. Rehearsal schedule is forthcoming. Ø Winter Concert- March 30th at 7:30. Snow date is March 31st. Ø All-States- Dave reported auditions were canceled due to the excessive snow days. Students will be selected according to their Regional Average Scores. The results should be released by March 14th. Meeting adjourned at 8:05 pm. Next Meeting is March 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the Band Room.
