 MINUTES OF THE WIMB MEETING

April 2011 

Eva Nascimento called meeting to order on April 14th at 7:20 pm.  Elia Walsh and Mario Ciampi not present.

President’s Comments Eva began with a reminder and call for all to attend the Town Council Public Budget Meeting at SDMS on Monday, April 18th. Town Council members and Board of Ed members will be there to listen to public comments and concerns. Eva reviewed the PTSA meeting notes to provide background for budget concerns and timeline.

March Minutes Joe Nascimento motioned to accept; Kirsten Kelly seconded. March minutes were accepted.

Treasurer’s Report Mario Ciampi was out.  Eva reported on his behalf that there was no activity to report for March. 

Fundraising 

Ø  Bottle Drive-John MacFarlane reported more volunteers are needed for April 30th.  Nella will send email blast requesting at least 2 more parents and 10-12 students per shift.  Flyers have been posted about town; Century 21 electronic sign has been reserved; Yolanda Preysner has notified media; Bob Greenough of Greenough Specialty Graphics donated the lawn signs.  

Ø  Ad Book- Letters have gone out. Deadline for ads and student recognition is May 1st.

Social Events

Ø  Band Banquet- Lisa Stefano reported that 169 invitations will go out tomorrow.  RSVP date is May 10th. Lisa Ambrogio reported senior gifts are in.

Dave Dion’s Update

Ø  Trip- Dave reported we are all set for the trip to West Side Story at the Bushnell on Tuesday, May 24th. There will be 21 chaperones and 98 kids.

Ø  All-States Competition- Dave reported was successful.  This year students were selected according to their Regional Average Scores.  Laura Morrison was one of the finalists.

Ø  Band Camp Dates- August 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26 from 9-noon and 1 to 4. Color Guard Camp Schedule is forthcoming. Preview show on the 26th at 5:30 at Webb.  Drum majors and section leaders to meet on the 16th.  The new fall schedule with Friday night football games will allow for less strenuous Saturday rehearsal and competition schedule, as well as 1-2 Saturday’s off during marching band season.

Ø  Spring Concert- May 19th

Ø  June 1st Concert for Elementary School Students- Dave reported that there will be a concert for elementary students to see what the middle and high school programs are like, as well as to provide them an opportunity to play with middle and high school students.  Concert will be during the day. Dave requested money to help pay for transportation of elementary students to the high school.  Charlie Epp motioned to approve $300 for cost of transportation.  Lisa Ambrogio seconded.  All were in favor, motion approved.

Ø  Open positions for 2011-2012: Website Advisor, 2 Fruit Sale shadows, 2 Ad Book Chairs, 2 Bottle Drive Chairs, Christmas Tree Shadow, Magnet Sales, Pit Crew, Color Guard Flags and Uniform Sewing, and Snack person chairs for band camp, games, and competition days.    

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.  Next Meeting is May 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the Chorus Room.
