MINUTES OF THE WIMB MEETING

May 2011 

Eva Nascimento called meeting to order on May 12th at 7:07 pm.  

President’s Comments Eva reviewed the 2011-2012 Booster Board: Eva Nascimento and Kirsten Kelley will be co-Presidents; Mario Ciampi, Treasurer; Teresa Swain, Secretary; Yolanda Preysner, Publicity.  There are many open chair positions and opportunities to shadow. She will post list to WIMB web site.

April Minutes Jane MacFarlane motioned to accept; Mario Ciampi seconded. April minutes accepted. 

Treasurer’s Report Mario Ciampi gave the treasurer’s report for April.  He proposed allocating $5,000 to the uniform account and reserving $5,000 next year’s starting balance.  This leaves approximately $8,000 to allocate for Mr. Dion’s wish list. Diane Dow motioned to accept proposal.  Kirsten Kelley seconded. Motion passed.

Fundraising 

Ø  Bottle Drive-John MacFarlane reported we made $1,751.55 for the Spring Bottle Drive.  At noon there were still many bags of bottles left to sort and process. John called Manchester Redemption who picked up the remainder of the bottles without sorting for a nominal percentage. Thank you to all who volunteered and a very special thank you to the following volunteers for all their extra efforts: Joe, Kayla and Matt Nascimento, John Preysner and Kevin Stewart.

Ø  Ad Book- Filomena was not present as she was working to finalize the Adbook, but it was reported that approximately $3,000 had been raised so far. 

Social Events

Ø  Band Banquet- Lisa Stefano and Paola Houlihan reported that so far there were 213 students, family and guests that had responded they would  be attending.  They need one more person to help Filomena at the Raffle table.  Nella will help Filomena. They also reminded “set up” volunteers to be at the community center for 4:30.

Dave Dion’s Update

Ø  Spring Concert- May 19th at 7:30.p.m.  8th graders will be performing.  All students must report to the high school by     7:00 p.m.

Ø  Trip to the Bushnell for West Side Story on May 24th.  120 chaperones and students are attending; buses are scheduled to leave the high school at 5:15 p.m.

Ø  Memorial Day Parade- May 29th student meet at the Cove parking Lot at 8:15 a.m.

Ø   Elementary Schools Concerts- June 1st was cancelled. Elementary school staff and administrators think it’s too busy this time of the year.  They will reconsider for next winter.

 

Other Business

Ø  Wish List- Mr. Dion provided his wish list: 2 bass clarinets, baritone sax, tenor sax, pearl marching tenors,

Bass amplifier, percussion mallets and accessories and misc. field show accessories. Motion passed to allot Mr. Dion $8,000 to spend towards wish list items.

Ø  WHS Band Handout- Contact Nella @ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with Q & A for the handout.  Hand out will include an invitation to 8th grade parents to join us at the June Booster Meeting. Also, Dave will make an announcement to the 8th grade parents at the Spring Concert.

Ø  Open positions for 2011-2012: Website Advisor, 2 Fruit Sale shadows, 2 Ad Book Chairs, 2 Bottle Drive Chairs, Christmas Tree Shadow, Magnet Sales, Pitt Crew, Color Guard Flags and Uniform Sewing, and Snack person chairs for band camp, games, and competition days. 

 

 Meeting adjourned at 8:50 pm.  Next Meeting is June 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the Chorus Room.
