MINUTES OF THE WIMB MEETING

June 2011

Eva Nascimento called meeting to order on June 16th at 7:10 pm.  

President’s Comments Eva began by welcoming parents of incoming freshman class.  She introduced the 2011-2012 board: Eva Nascimento and Kirsten Kelley, Co-presidents; Mario Ciampi, Treasurer; and Teresa Swain, Secretary (was not present).  Then, she gave some background of fundraisers, including the fruit sale and how students can earn money to help pay for their trips. Extra funds raised at the end of the year go towards Dion’s wish list. Last year $13,000 was allocated. New parents had questions regarding competitions, practices and football games. Eva provided a list of open volunteer positions: videographers, bottle drive co-chair, Christmas tree pick-up co-chair, and band camp snacks coordinators.

May Minutes Judy Niedzielski motioned to accept; John MacFarlane seconded. May minutes were accepted.

Treasurer’s Report Mario read May Treasurer’s report. Boosters allocated $8,000 to Mr. Dion’s Wish List. He, also, received a $1,000 donation from UNICO.

Fundraising 

Ø  Bottle Drive-John MacFarlane reported that the May Bottle Drive made $1751.55.  The next bottle drive will be on Saturday, August 20^th.

Ø  Ad Book- Filomena Marinelli reported a net profit of $2,613.00.  Again, Mr. Valente saved us the printing cost as he printed the ad book for free. A copy was sent to all businesses that put in at least ¼ page advertisement, and a special plaque was made for and delivered to Mr. Valente.

• Music & Arts- Filomena reported Marie Gray approved a Wethersfield Pickup Day. It will be Saturday, September 10^th. This year Music & Arts is allowing for parents to reserve their instruments. We earn $50 per parent volunteer.

• Music T-shirts- Order Forms will be available on website. All sizes are still available.

Social Events

Ø  Band Banquet- Lisa Stefano was not present.  But Paola Houlihan reported all went very well.

Dave Dion’s Update

Ø  Trip- Dave reported trip went very well. Everyone enjoyed dinner, the show, and meeting with the cast afterwards. Next trip will be in May 2012 to Myrtle Beach.  The approximate cost is in the mid $700.  He will have more details and specific amount in the fall.

Ø  Band Camp Dates- August 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26 from 9-noon and 1 to 4. Color Guard Camp Schedule is forthcoming. Preview show on the 26^th at 5:30 at Webb.  Band Information Packets will be given to all students by hand before the last day of school. Also, all forms in packet are due by the first day of band camp.  Forms will also be available for download on the WIMB website in early July.

Ø  2011-2012 Field Show will be "Trismegistus".

Other Business

• Kirsten Kelley asked if we were interested in doing a Rita’s Fundraiser. Some questioned how much could be raised. Maybe we could check with Football Boosters, as they will be running one on the last day of school. Some parent felt that we shouldn’t consider another fundraiser unless it was necessary.

 Meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.  Next meeting is September 8^th at 7:00 p.m. in the Chorus Room.
