October 2011 Minutes MINUTES OF THE WIMB MEETING October 2011 Eva Nascimento called the meeting to order on October 13 at 7:06 pm. President’s Comments Eva began by providing details of the Fruit Sale fundraiser, which is the biggest WIMB fundraising event. The pick up weekend will be held November 18, 19, and 20th. Eva announced that again Jane has agreed to coordinate putting together the fruit baskets, and Diane will be the volunteer Fruit Sale Coordinator this year. There will be 1 additional call night being held Tuesday, 10/18/2011 at Coldwell Banker located on the Silas Deane Highway. September Minutes September minutes were unavailable and will be provided at November’s band booster’s meeting for motion to accept or amend. Treasurer’s Report Mario read September’s treasurer’s report, and provided a brief overview of the monetary transactions for income and expenses and provided an accounting of where we stood year to date. Fundraising •Eva called a short meeting prior to the start of the WIMB meeting to go over the details of the Fruit Sale Pick Up weekend which will be held November 18, 19, & 20, 2011.Teresa Swain will coordinate Snacks and beverages for the event. •Eva announced that several corporations were available for employees to submit grants for donations to WIMB. Most major corporations will provide donations to the band boosters and only require volunteer hours in order to receive the grant. Please check with your employer to see if this program is available to help support the band. •Eva shared information regarding a new organization called Horns for Kids. This is an organization that donates gently used instruments. Once a month they have instruments available WHS Band received a new drum set thru this program. •Music T-shirts- Nancy Andrews had extra T-Shirts available for $10.00 if anyone was interested in purchasing a T-Shirt. New Business • Donations – One of the band students lost a family member in a tragic car accident. This family member was very involved with the Wethersfield Volunteer Ambulance Association and Keri Milne that we make a monetary donation in her memory. This motion was seconded by Diane Dow. • Parents bus to Bridgeport – Discussion was made regarding the Parents bus to Bridgeport for the Band Competition finals. The cost for the bus was discussed but will be confirmed at a later date. Yolonda Preysner will coordinate this bus trip. • Lights for Showcases – Eva mailed to Mr. Bushey regarding lights in the showcases for band trophies. Eva was quoted $700 to $1,000 for showcase lighting which we thought was a little excessive. Mr. Bucchi is currently on sick leave and Eva will discuss with him further once he returns. • Senior Day will be held on November 12, 2011 which will also be picture day for the band. We will need White Carnations with blue ribbons for the seniors. Teresa Swain has agreed to get the corsages and will coordinate with Eva Nascimento the number needed and where to purchase. Dave Dion’s Update• Dave gave an update on the Marching Band and their performance and details of the last competition. • 2011-2012 Field Show is "Trismegistus". • Trip- Dave reported the trip to Hershey, PA has been approved for June 1, 2, and 3rd at an approximate cost of $500.00 which will include a stop to see the Broadway play, Chicago. Meeting adjourned at 8:25pm. The next meeting is November 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Chorus Room.
