MINUTES OF THE WIMB MEETING OCTOBER 2008 Nancy Andrews called meeting to order on October 9th at 7:05. September Minutes Jerome Sauer accepted the September minutes and Donna Winder seconded. Treasurer’s Report Mario Ciampi- September’s transactions included color guard uniforms,t-shirts and sweatshirts (which are not a fundraiser) and other misc expenses. In addition, $14,000 of the $36,361.89 in the booster account is already spent on new instruments. Website Gail Griffin- Please do not respond to bulk mail by hitting the “reply” on email menu bar. Any responses sent in this manner will be lost in cyberspace…Rather, address new email to the individual sending the message. Publicity Nancy Andrews updated everyone, as Yolanda Preysner was out. Check out article in the Wethersfield Post, as well as fruit sale ads. Also, WPS TV ran program focusing on Drum Majors and featured ads for our fruit and basket sale. Marching Updates and Reminders Need at least one chaperone to be responsible for bringing extra uniform accessories. Remind students to be careful when wearing uniforms as they are very expensive to dry clean. November 8th game has been moved to Friday, November 7th. It will be a night game and will coincide with the Welcome Back Fair. Several questions arose regarding the scheduling conflict for the drum line. Uniforms The 10 uniforms purchased by the school have not arrived yet. The alterations on the jackets that were approved at the last meeting have been completed. The tailor is now working on the pants. Fundraising 1) Fruit - Jeanne Ruffy and Eva Nasciamento- Number of sales is just short of 1,000; forms are more complete this year; forms of students not selling have been redistributed to those that are selling; 141 orders were solicited on our first call night- Oct. 8th. There are 3 more call nights on the 15th , 22nd, and the 29th. We still need volunteers for fruit truck and lights for the pick up nights…some parents volunteered heavy duty extension cord and heat gun for making fruit baskets. 2) Magnets- Stacey Veley- only 55 magnets left. She said company can still offer us the 3 color “Eagles” magnet at $2.58 for a minimum order of 550. Motion passed to reorder magnets. 3) Chocolate and Wine Tasting at the Chocolate Café on Nov 15th. Call Carol Narcissus for reservations. 4) We still have $10.00 Superstar t-shirts, as well as $2.00 Divine Comedy t-shirts. Other Business Kohlhagen asked we come to the Oct. 14th Board of Ed Meeting at SDMS @7:30. We will thank the board for the new chairs and uniforms and present Kohlhagen with a band t-shirt. Would like to have some student volunteers to hold band trophies. Discussed Channel 3 “Cool Schools” and other radio and tv publicity. No decision made. Discussed the possibility of sponsoring a Band Summer School Program. Members shared frustrations with other program’s last minute scheduling that doesn’t allow for proper planning. No decision made. Dave Dion’s Update -Kids are doing a great job. Their technique is steadily improving. -There will be no additional competition/show. -November 8th game changed to the 7th. Senior band members and parents will be recognized at half-time. Hopefully, this time will work for the drum line participating in the Rock for the Cure. Meeting adjourned at 8:35. Next Meeting is Nov 13th at 7:00 p.m.
