MINUTES OF THE WIMB MEETING
NOVEMBER 2008
Nancy Andrews called meeting to order on November 13th at 7:05.
October Minutes
Yolanda Preysner accepted the October minutes and Gil Winder seconded.
Treasurer’s Report
Mario Ciampi- October’s transactions included uniform cleaning, purchase of magnets, and new instruments, as well as deposits from fruit sales and Rockcats receipts. Booster Account ended with $23,931.52.
Website
Gail Griffin- Gail continues to work out the email distribution issues.
Publicity
Yolanda Preysner- Focus has been on advertising the Fruit Sale and Chocolate/Wine Tasting. Post article wrapping up the band season will be in next Friday’s issue. A senior group photo will appear in the yearbook. If anyone has photos from regionals, please send then to Yolanda.
Fundraising
1) Fruit - Jeanne Ruffy and Eva Nasciamento- Donations are up at $3, 119. Overall total looks like it will be on par with last year’s. Top 4 student sellers sold $5,530. Highest seller is Gina Salvatore with $1,525. Student participation was at 89% from band and color guard, and 36% from orchestra. Basket orders are at 178. We will make 200. They are still looking for volunteers for Fruit Sales Weekend and to shadow for next year’s sale.
2) Magnets- Stacey Veley- only 55 magnets left. She said company can still offer us the 3 color “Eagles” magnet at $2.58 for a minimum order of 550. Motion passed to reorder magnets.
3) Chocolate and Wine Tasting at the Chocolate Café on Nov 15th. There are still 4 tickets left. Tickets are $20 per person. Call Carol Narcissus for reservations.
4) United Way- We are waiting for check. It should be approximately $1,600.00. Also, Nancy reminded everyone to check to see if there employers offer corporate matching.
5) Rock Cats- We need to pick game dates, but before we do that we need to look into getting a Certificate of Insurance. Insurance Riders thru town are not available. Insurance could cost us up to $1,000. Nancy is having agent look into it and will get back to us.
6) Ad Book- Dan Jylka- still need shadow chair. Dan is considering just collecting donations and business cards due to current economic conditions.
Other Business
-Marie Gray to visit during January or February 2009 Meeting.
-Band Banquet- needs chairpersons. Nella Szilagyi will co-chair, still need one chair, maybe Elia Walsh.
-Yolanda asked about the Spring Music Day. Nancy said Kohlhagen is planning for the music teachers and Marie Gray to facilitate the event.
-A brief December Meeting will be at the Nascimento’s followed by The Boosters Holiday Party. Just email or call Eva to sign up for what to you’ll be bringing.
Dave Dion’s Update
-Band Trip has been set for Wednesday, April 22nd. Students will be attending a performance of In the Heights, a mixture of Spanish hip-hop and traditional music. Group will attend a matinee and should plan for lunch in New York City and dinner on the way home.
-Acting and pit tryouts for The Music Man will be in the middle of December.
-Dave also said he would facilitate the Pep Band if students come forward to spearhead it.
