MINUTES OF THE WIMB MEETING

APRIL 2009

 Nancy Andrew called meeting to order on April12, 2009 at 7:10 p.m.

  

March minutes accepted by Dan Jylka and seconded by Gil Winder.

 Treasurer’s Report

            Mario Ciampi- was absent.  May Report will be cumulative.

 

Dave Dion’s Update

Ø      St Patrick’s Day Parade –WHS started much later than anticipated, students were great. Dave and parents discussed replacing St. Patrick’s Day Parade with Veteran’s Day Parade.

Ø      Memorial Day Parade- May 23rd @ 9:00.  Students will be wearing their uniforms.

Ø      Spring Concert- no 8th graders will be joining us.

Ø      In the Heights- April 22nd. We will be returning around 7:30.  Chaperone details will be coming soon.

Ø      Graduation- still on June 23rd.

Ø      2009 Band Camp- August 19th- August 26th

Ø      All Schools Music Festival- will not happen this year, most likely to occur next year.

Ø      Summer Music Program- will be available through Park and Rec.  It will model Newington’s program: older students will provide instruction and there will be a culminating concert.

Fundraising

Ø      Bottle Drive- Charlie: Date is April 25th    8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Still need volunteers; Asked Dave to push freshmen to volunteer. Charlie requested additional sorting bins; approved to purchase and be reimbursed.  Rare Reminder, Wethersfield Life and Wethersfield Post ads are out. As a result of ads, a Wethersfield resident contacted Charlie to pick cans.  She gave $15.00 in cans and a $25.00 cash donation.  Also, a Daisy group will be collecting bottles as part of their community service efforts.  Nancy suggested we check into doing a Rare Reminder insert next year if it’s affordable.

Ø      Rockcats- Days are May 31, June 27, July 12, 31, and August 14.  Still need volunteers. Donna has working papers for 16 year old student workers.  R & L Agency has faxed insurance binder to Rockcats.

Ø      Ad Book-Dan Jylka- We grossed $2,150; $307.50 went for printing.  We still need someone to run this next year.

Ø      Concert DVDs –Gail Griffin- Marching Season, Holiday, and Winter Concert Available.

Other Business

Ø      Banquet- Friday, May 22nd.  Volunteer sign up sheet sent around. Contact Nella Szilagyi or Elia Walsh if you’ll be able to help that night. Lisa Ambrogio is taking care of gifts for seniors and teachers, and Liz Edgaro and Mara Carey are working on the slideshow.  Please send digital photos to Mara Carey at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Ø      Rock for the Cure- great success; made $1, 026.83.  Proceeds to be split between a “campership” to Camp Ostawama in Ian Wells name and Community of Caring.

Ø      Open Committee and Board positions include Vice President, Fruit Sales Volunteer Coordinator, Magnet Sales and Ad Book Chair; Positions will be voted on during May meeting.
